MY CAR HASN'T RUN IN YEARS, WILL YOU STILL TAKE IT?

To be honest, we're open to nearly any type of donation to help the cause, so once you submit your information, we will reach out to you and confirm with you if the vehicle will meet our criteria. In general, we look for complete vehicles that are in need of repair or have been left unattended for quite some time. Even if damage is present, we will consider. We seek ownership documentation (vehicle title) and keys, if applicable.

HOW DOES MY DONATION TURN INTO A BENEFIT TO OTHERS?

We take donated vehicles and rely on an online auction platform to sell them.  Dealers and individual buyers typically buy them to repair and drive, use them for parts, choose to export them or even use for scrap, depending on the condition of the vehicle. It may seem heartbreaking at first, but think about it this way, that car that provided you all that joy will now live on to provide a brighter future for someone who wants to learn and improve his or her life.

HOW DOES THE TAX DEDUCTION WORK?

Once your vehicle has been sold, our partners in the auction will provide us proof of sale, and we will then provide you a written receipt. As a recognized IRS 501(c)(3) foundation, this receipt can be used for you to apply towards your tax return at the end of the year. While we know that it can potentially lower your tax liability, we strongly recommend referring to your tax accountant for exact details. For more information, IRS publication 4303 is a guide to help you understand the car donation process.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR PROCEEDS?

All net proceeds are used to create awareness for the skilled trades and to provide student grants and endowments for equipment and educational facilities to promote and operate state-run technical schools.

WHY THE TECHNICAL TRADES?

Our founders were automotive technicians at one point in their lives, which is why we understand and treasure these incredible skills. Fortunately, many of the technical schools that we contribute to also offer curriculum in HVAC, plumbing and training for future electricians and carpenters.

CAN I VOLUNTEER MY TIME TO HELP YOU?

Yes, we would love to hear from you. We are always looking for good-hearted individuals or groups to handle everything from logistics to spreading the word. Any and all help is appreciated and we reciprocate and can provide your employer a letter for the time you have generously provided us. Email us at info@greatcarma.org.

CAN I DONATE A CAR THAT IS NOT IN MY NAME AND STILL GET A TAX DEDUCTION?

The person listed on title as the owner of the vehicle in your local Motor Vehicle Agency's records will be the only person we can give the tax receipt to.

CAN I GIVE YOU MONEY DIRECTLY FOR YOUR CAUSE?

Yes, we gladly accept payment to help our cause. You will receive a receipt for your direct contribution, which potentially, is also tax deductible.

I HAVE A BOAT. WOULD YOU ACCEPT IT?

We can accept just about anything! We are always interested in any and all donations and will reach out to you to get more information. If all works out, we will gladly pick up any and all vehicles you are willing to help our cause.

WHO COMES TO PICK UP THE CAR?

We have a network of hard-working professional towing operators to pick up the vehicle. As trained, licensed and certified specialists, you are in good hands. They will have all the paperwork you need and with a few signatures, your former liability becomes an asset to a greater cause.
